SLR Consulting (SLR) has a large and successful Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) team that works across all business areas, throughout Africa, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Due to the increasing workload of social impact assessments (SIA) for a range of clients throughout Africa and Eastern Europe, SLR France is looking to appoint a Social Impact Assessment consultant at either Associate or Principal grade. The location is Grenoble in France, but the position requires frequent travelling to Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe or Asia.
Job Description :
The successful candidate will be involved in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for a variety of projects from the power, oil & gas, mining and infrastructure sectors.
You will work alongside an ESIA Project Manager to coordinate the preparation of the SIA input to ESIA projects. The work will typically involve coordinating baseline data gathering, site surveys, research and assessment work and consultation with local key stakeholders. You will typically prepare Social Baseline Report, Social Impact Assessments, Land Acquisition and Livelihood Restoration Plans, Stakeholder Engagement Plan.
The workload will be diverse and will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to play a key role in the development of a rapidly expanding part of the SLR business. You will be involved in report writing but also in marketing and business development for your area of expertise. You will have the opportunity to work within an experienced team and be involved in a series of exciting challenges with one of the leading environmental consultancies in Europe.
Fluent in English, you will have at least 5 years of experience in social studies on international projects in developing countries. You have demonstrated knowledge of the World Bank and IFC Environmental & Social Performance Standards. You have a Master or Post-graduate qualification in social sciences applied to international development (social anthropology, sociology, geography, political science).
Technical Skills, Abilities, Experience
- At least 5 years of experience on Social Studies on international projects in developing countries
- Fluency in English - Good command of French.
- Strong knowledge and practice of qualitative and quantitative social data collection methodologies
- Very good computer skills (Office Suite, GIS, Statistical software, database management)
- Experience of major infrastructure projects, extractive projects, energy projects.
- Experience of working to international standards (e.g. IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Safeguards Policies)
- Experience of developing Corporate Social Responsibility strategies for clients or Sustainability reporting.

- Ability to deliver projects within deadline and budget constraints
- Interdisciplinary and intercultural abilities
Education, Qualifications:
- Master or Post-graduate qualification in social sciences applied to international development (social anthropology, sociology, geography, political science)
Salary / contract:
- French permanent contract, based in Grenoble, France.
- Salary will be negotiated based on experience, and will comply with the SYNTEC collective agreement.
