06 January 2020
Online, South America
In this episode of the web-series "Making EIA Better 5 Questions at a Time", Alberto Fonseca interviews Frank Vanclay, professor of cultural geography in the Faculty of Spatial Sciences at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands).
The interview addresses the following 5 questions: What are the most challenging SIA principles? And why? What specific SIA tools or concepts can be particularly helpful to EIA authorities and practitioners? What are the main advantages and disadvantages of carrying out SIA separately from biophysical IA? How can we judge the acceptability of trade-offs between social and biophysical impacts? How can we design legislation and regulations so that they can foster effective SIAs?
