The Department is currently consulting on draft social impact assessment guidelines for State significant resource projects, including mining, petroleum production and extractive industry development.
The draft guidelines aim to ensure that the social impacts of State significant resource projects are identified, assessed and dealt with in a transparent, consistent and robust manner. The overall aim is to minimise negative social impacts, maximise potential benefits and deliver better outcomes.
The guidelines will strengthen the quality of information and analysis available to decision-makers, and give communities a stronger voice in the assessment process.
The draft guidelines will provide for greater accountability for monitoring and managing social impacts and proposed management strategies.
