The content is based on the experiences of the Danish Institute for Human Rights conducting HRIAs with companies from various sectors. Over 25 expert reviewers including impact assessment practitioners, company specialists, international NGOs and institutions have provided valuable input to the tool.
The Toolbox is divided into five phases: 1. Planning and scoping; 2. Data collection and baseline development; 3. Analyzing impacts; 4. Impact Mitigation and management 5. Reporting and evaluation; and of a cross-cutting section on stakeholder engagement. Each part contains background information, as well as practical templates, checklists and other tools.
Next steps for the toolkit will be to use it in practice, to gather and share learning on impact assessment process, impacts and reporting and to update the Toolbox based on experiences from practice. DIHR welcomes contributions, questions and sharing of experiences to make this tool a common resource for those aiming at advancing respect for human rights by business.
